The Historically Inaccurate Gimlet

My second piece on the FineCooking.com cocktail blog is up.  It is a rather simple fresh lime Gimlet recipe. I know that the Rose's lime cordial Gimlet is historically accurate, but I mean seriously, yuck.

I used to agree with you about how disagreeable gimlets were. And then I had one made with Plymouth Navy Strength at the Tales seminar on overproof spirits. Excellent, even when batched for the crowd.
Perhaps the problem is not the Rose’s but the gin we’re all using?

The essence of the Gimlet is the lime cordial. You can use Rose’s or you can make your own, but fresh lime juice and sugar is no substitute. What you’ve made is a Gin Sour, nothing more.
