Welcome Back, Harvey Wallbanger

With the new formula of Galliano and a renewed interest in the fern bar, the Harvey Wallbanger is about due for a comeback.

In my latest post for Fine Cooking, I investigate the cocktail. Have a look, and remember that comments make me happy and keep me employed.

Stan Jones smiles upon this post.
I can’t bring myself to buying the new/old formulation until I clear my half bottle of pre-re-release one. Especially since we don’t use it too often.
Bars had a major resurgence here about a year and a half ago where I had a few Galliano drinks in a short period of time. There was a big push by the rep to get a drink on the menu (and after that short period of time, it dropped off pretty quickly).

in the spirit of making you happy and keeping you employed, dear Camper, allow me to share a cocktail i made to capture the essence of both the 70’s fern bar AND the modern cocktail movement in one:
The Great Fern Bar Revival Cocktail
    1.5 oz Buffalo Trace Bourbon
    .5 oz Galliano
    .25 oz Grand Marnier
    .25 oz Amaretto di Saronno
    .5 oz OJ
    .5 oz Lemon juice
    2 dashes Grapefruit bitters
shake with ice & strain into coupe. garnish with orange zest and shiso leaf.

As Frederic / Stan mentioned – last year’s re-release is kind of still trumping this year’s new release. Need to figure out a way to link to my (sadly, print) Updated Harvey Wallbanger from last fall/this spring. Some day I’ll be organized and upload this stuff!

What is the difference between the old Galliano and the New one??? Are there specific recipe differences???

The answer you seek is in the original story.
