Germany, Ensslin, Aviation, and Blue Cocktails

My latest post on FineCooking.com is up. It's typical of my thought process: I was going to write about my time in Germany and ended up talking about a German bartender who wrote an American cocktail book in which the Aviation cocktail was first mentioned and later forgotten.

Aviation you say? Now you’ve got my attention. Nice little write up, but I feel guilty talking about them because it would break my heart if the Aviation became the next Cosmopolitan. Don’t laugh! It could happen.

Ok so lets clarify this. I have seen 3 or 4 different recipes of the Aviation without creme de violette, most notably Mr. Bostons. Is this a more modern incarnation of the cocktail??

    Did you read the story?

Sorry for the stupid question, I glanced throught the story rather quickly. Now after carefully reading it my question has been answered. Thanks.

The Aviation sounds great, I have to admit I haven’t experimented with creme de violette before. I’m adding it to my shopping list so I can try this recipe, thanks! And yes, well done with the picture!
